Life at Him Jyoti

The girls follow a tight schedule from yoga in the morning, classes, hobbies and games in the evening, followed by prep, the news headlines on T.V. meditation and to bed. Yet, despite a busy schedule, the girls get sufficient time and opportunities for recreation, especially over the weekends.

Educational and entertaining movies and documentaries are screened for the students on weekends and holidays. Reading, listening to music, chess, carom and ludo, computer gaming and SMC projects all form a part of the recreational activities of the students. Sports play an important part in the life of a Him Jyoti student. The girls begin the day with yoga and P.T. Sports is a compulsory part of the curriculum and with a qualified instructor, the students are learning games such as hockey, volleyball, kho kho, table tennis ,chess and badminton.



Curriculum
The medium of instruction is English. The school is affiliated to the CBSE Board and follows the curriculum prescribed by the Board for Classes V to XII. The teaching and learning of English form an important part of the curriculum in the first year. Thereafter the girls learn all the subjects as per the CBSE curriculum.

Teaching
As most of the students come from Government schools and have had little or no exposure to English, the major thrust in the first few years is the teaching and learning of English. English is taught as a foreign language, with emphasis on spoken skills and maximum use of audio-visual aids and a high-tech language lab set up for the purpose. The teaching of a foreign language must necessarily follow the natural order of listening, speaking, reading and writing, and this is the method followed at Him Jyoti. Many innovative programmes have been tried and found to be most effective in raising the level of academic achievement of every child.
